Dressing Trendy Without Spending A Penny

If you ask me I'm not someone who is super-trendy, and I am especially not the first one to jump on to new trends.

However, if I like a particular fashion trend, the first thing I try to do is look in to my ever-expanding wardrobe to see if I have any item to create the so-called trendy look, without having to spend any real money on the same. And this is what happened when I wanted to try out the oh-so-popular trend of wearing longer shirts over tops/tees and jeans. Now dusters are also a rage currently, and I do have a bohemian floor length kaftan/kimono style duster, but I was more interested in the mid-length shirt/buttoned tunic sort of a look. So after rummaging through my closet, I came across this striped dress, which can actually be worn multiple ways, thanks to the buttoned front. So after pulling this little number out of my closet I quickly picked out one of my favourite (and also fairly old) blue/white tops. I paired my blue skinny jeans with the top and the tunic/dress and voila...I created an outfit that was/is trendy without spending even a penny. So I encourage you guys to go through your existing clothes in order to recreate a trend without blindly heading to the shops to buy those "trendy" pieces.

BTW, if you have seen my Turkey Look-Books, you would know that I had worn this striped blue dress in magical Cappadocia.

OOTD & Try-On Fashion Haul || KOOVS & Zara

Stripes are a classic in their own right and I really feel that one can't have enough stripe-y items in their wardrobe. At least I feel that whenever I shop, I subconsciously gravitate towards stripes- and that's the reason I bought two striped maxi dresses (and a lot more) from the recent online Koovs Sale. I've also included a beautiful white cape that I bought from Zara fairly recently.

The one in the first photo is pretty much a classic black-white striped maxi, but the bohemian maxi (photo 2) is the one which is my absolute favourite, and that's because I'm not the only one who loves this colourful number, it seems Kareena Kapoor and I have similar taste when it comes to 'fashion'. She was spotted wearing the same maxi on Saif's birthday. And wait for it, just when you thought Kareena and I had only this maxi dress in common, there's another maxi that we both own, but to know which maxi is that you'll have watch the video. ;)

BTW, I also picked up a few kimonos which I'm sure all you kimono fans would love.

What I Wore in Turkey || Vacation Outfits

Now that you guys have seen what I wore in Istanbul, I thought I'd share with you the outfits I wore during the rest of our Turkey Trip.

I mostly stuck to cute dresses and shorts, and for footwear I either wore my favourite Bata flats or flip-flops.

I would love to know which outfit did you like the best.

BTW, I bought loads of goodies from Turkey. Click here if you want to see my buys!

How I Styled My 10 Year Old Skirt

I know I have been far from regular on this blog, and I know that more often than not, I promise to be more regular, but for some reason, I am just not able to keep up with writing about all the fun outfits (IMO) I have been rocking.

However, if you head over to my YouTube Channel, it's a totally different story. I have been posting videos twice, sometimes even thrice a week, and the videos cover everything from fashion to beauty to lifestyle. And incase you are just interested in outfit posts, then you may head to my Instagram, where I post almost everyday!

With that being said, I do want to let you guys know that I will continue to blog, maybe not as regularly as I used to a year back, but you will see outfit posts from me.

Like the one I'm sharing today- it's the perfect outfit for the current weather. I wore it to shopping sometime last week. Now whenever I have to run an errand, or go shopping, I try to dress cute, but even while trying to dress cute, comfort is key! So I chose a simple green top and paired it with a floral chiffon skirt, which, believe it or not, is about 10 years old! Yes, you read it right! And yes, I hold on to my clothes (at least the ones I like) for rather long! Wearing flat footwear was a no-brainer (I'm not the kind who can hop around in heels for long). And to add an element of interest to the outfit, I wore my beaded tassel necklace (which is reminiscent of BaubleBar jewellery). And since it was (and is) rather hot, I wore my hair in a bun. All in all, the outfit was comfortable yet cute! :)

Valentine's Day Make-Up Tutorial + Outfit Idea || Clothes and Creativity

So Valentine's Day is just around the corner and I thought I'd share with you my go-to outfit for a Valentine's Day Date! Now I remember when I was in school and college I used to get super-excited about Valentine's Day, but in the recent years, I have realised that to spend quality time with your partner, to just bond with them is probably my favourite way to celebrate this supposed 'Day of Love'. Don't get me wrong, those of you who want  to 'party-hardy', I mean I have surely done that, but like I said, age does add some wisdom (or so I like to think)! :)

With that being said, let's just move on to my outfit. Although I wore this outfit for a picnic last weekend, I would love to dress in something similar, come Valentine's Day. It's easy, breezy and bohemian. Perfect for just lounging around or going about town! :)

I also filmed a make-up tutorial centred around Valentine's Day! :)

How I Styled my Houndstooth Cardigan || OOTD || Clothes and Creativity

I wanted to style this gorgeous houndstooth cardigan ever since I bought it, but I only got the opportunity to do so last Sunday! And that’s because the weather in Delhi has been rather unpredictable- some days are bitterly cold, and others, rather warm and sunny.

Anyway, getting back to the outfit, since I find houndstooth print to be quite a statement in itself, and so, I wanted to keep the rest of the outfit pretty neutral. And what better way to ‘do’ neutral than to rock some ‘denim-on-denim’!

Perfect Outfit for a Sunny Winter

Hi Guys!

Winters have arrived in full-swing, and although I’ve got a ton of hardcore winter outfit posts for you all, today I’m going to share with you an outfit you could totally rock on a warm/sunny winter day.

I just paired up my dark blue skinnies with a basic navy tee, threw on an Aztec print scarf, and finished off the outfit by adding a bright green cardigan (for the warmth).

Mix and Match Indian Outfit

Those of you who follow me on Instagram and/or have subscribed to my YouTube Channel would know that I have been attending weddings (and other related functions) back to back, and boy am I glad that the first installment of the ‘wedding season’ is over!

Now that I have some breathing space, I will share with you all the fancy clothes I wore to these weddings, starting with this beautiful outfit which was a result of my mix-and-match genius…haha! Now I know when we think of ‘mix-and-match’ outfits, the ones that pop-up in our mind our usually western ones. But since I was so bored with my (not really) old ‘salwar-kameez’, I decided to give them a spin by creating new combinations. Starting with this one, which is a result of this outfit + this outfit. As you can see, the kurta is from a red suit, and the dupatta is from a cream/blue chanderi suit. The red pants are the ones which I got stitched last season to wear with another ‘salwaar-kameez’, so basically, all three components are from three different outfits, but they do combine nicely to make this outfit that I wore to a friend’s Shagun, and then to another friend’s engagement last week.

For accessories I wore nice, big pearl/kundan earrings, and I did carry a deep yellow silk pochette (not visible in this photo). For footwear I chose my favourite gold sandals, they have a bit of heel but are still comfortable (and sparkly). I did open my hair for the functions so this is not the hairstyle I sported, but overall, this is the look I wore for two of the wedding functions last week.

Do you mix-and-match your Indian Outfits? Do leave in a comment. J

Happy Diwali: Outfit of the Day

Hope all of you had a beautiful Diwali. I sure had a great time with family.
Actually, to be honest, I spent most of the day getting our house in order, and by evening I was kind of exhausted. So although I did want to get dolled-up in a nice saree, I chose comfort over style (I think I say that a lot). But in comfort too, I wanted to ‘dress for the occasion’. So I came up with the following outfit solution:
Floral Maxi Skirt + Raw Silk Red Blouse + Statement Earrings
There’s something about this floral skirt that makes the whole outfit dressy. If you recall from this post, I had bought this skirt a couple of weeks back. It came with another top, but somehow the outfit as a whole did nothing for me. So I had made a mental note to look for a top from my existing wardrobe that would go nicely with the skirt. And on looking, I found this beautiful raw silk top that I had gotten stitched from my local tailor a couple of years back. So this whole outfit is the perfect example of ‘mix and match’. The best thing about this outfit is that since the skirt has an elastic waistband, it’s really comfortable.

Fall OOTD: Denim Jacket, Tunic Top & Jeans

We’ve been having quite nice weather here in Delhi- what with the rather cool breeze even in the afternoons. So for a person like me it becomes imperative to layer my outfit this time of the year. And nothing works better as a layering piece than a denim shirt/jacket.

I for sure have been using mine tons. Like the time we headed to HKV for dinner and drinks. I just wanted to keep my outfit casual and weather appropriate- so I started by pairing my green tunic top with my dark blue skinny jeans. I added the denim shirt to keep me comfy. I feel like I shouldn’t even state the obvious when it comes to footwear- because I wore my silver ballet flats AGAIN!  And to keep the outfit casual but classic, I carried my gorgeous Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 handbag. I’ve noticed that recently I’ve been opting for simpler but classic pieces rather than trendy ones. Maybe it’s got something to do with growing up (not old…haha), but I’m loving this new casual-comfy vibe!

OOTD: Durga Pooja

As much as I love to dress-up for festivals, sometimes I do like to give a casual spin to my outfit. And that’s exactly what happened on Durga Pooja this year.

Now every year we try to visit the Pooja Pandal at Chittaranjan Park, and this year was no different. But because of past experience, I know that wearing something elaborate while pandal hopping is not a good idea. Sure there are tons of beautiful girls rocking gorgeous Indian attire, but that’s not my cup of tea, when the first thing on my agenda is to hog on some delicious fish curry. ;) So to cut a long story short, I teamed-up my dark blue skinnies with a floral top that I bought from Sarojini Nagar a couple of months back. And since the weather has become nippy, I threw on my favourite denim shirt/jacket to keep me comfy. For footwear I obviously chose my silver ballet flats, and that’s because I cannot imagine sauntering in heels in crowded places.

Casual Indian Outfit

Now I know it’s been more than a month since Rakhi, but still, I am going to share my Rakhi outfit on the blog today. J

Rakhi is one of those special occasions where most of us get dressed in our Indian wear. So on this Rakhi, while rummaging through my cupboard, I happened to re-discover this gorgeous pink (cotton) chikan kurta that I had picked up from Lucknow, but that did not really get a lot of love from me. Now I like wearing cotton clothes, mostly because they are so soft and breezy, and this kurta was perfect for the rather humid weather we had (in August)! Problem was, I did not have a suitable pair of bottoms for it. I mean sure I could have paired it up with trusted blue skinnies, but I did not want that look. So I did the best thing I could, I pulled out a pair of white cotton pants from my Mum’s closet, and voila, I was Rakhi-ready. J

I did wear big jhumkas and a nice bindi to accentuate the whole Indian vibe. J

Let me know how you liked this outfit.

OOTD: Mad for Plaid

I know ‘Mad for Plaid’ is a rather over-played title in the world of ‘fashion blogging’, but hey, it works!

So now that the weather is a teeny bit nippy (here in Delhi), it’s time to bring out all the fun plaid shirts hibernating in our closet, because I don’t know about you, but for me, Plaid Shirts are an Autumn/Fall Essential. And that’s precisely why I wore a simple ‘Plaid Shirt-Skinny Jeans’ combo when I had to head out to the Contemporary Arts Week. The outfit was pretty basic- and that’s what I was aiming for since we were out and about on our toes for rather long. That explains the ballet flats as well. ;)

OOTD: Denim Dress + Floral Necklace

For me a denim dress is a closet staple, and that’s because it’s so easy to dress-up a denim dress. All you need is a fun accessory, like a statement necklace, and voila you’re ready to hit the town.

Talking about denim dresses, I just have two of them, but every time I’m in doubt as to what to wear, I find myself reaching out for one of the two dresses, like I did a couple of weeks back. I had to run a couple of errands and then head to the mall for some shopping, and I did not really have the time to get all ‘dolled-up’. So I just pulled out my denim dress, threw on a floral necklace, stuffed my necessities in my Speedy 30, and I was good to go. That simple!

What are your closet staples?

Indian Wedding Guest: Sangeet +Cocktail Outfit

I think I am going to call these posts the ‘Indian Wedding Guest Series’ just because all the outfits are centred around what a guest (read: me) would wear or has already worn to an Indian wedding.

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get started with this post. In February we attended a couple of weddings, and I know that February was a long time ago, but hey, February weather is pretty similar to October/November weather and so the outfit/s I wore might serve as fashion inspiration for the coming Autumn weddings (if that makes sense).

So, coming back to the outfit, in this post I’ll take you through my look for a friend’s Sangeet + Cocktail (whose wedding we attended in Feb). I chose a hot pink Anarkali that had been sitting pretty in my closet since quite some time, but somehow I hadn’t been able to do justice to it.  So I chose to wear it for our friend’s Sangeet/Cocktail. Now since the venue was indoors, the sleeveless Anarkali in breezy chiffon fabric was the perfect choice. And the fact that although the silhouette was rather traditional, the modern neckline, and sequined embroidery added a perfect touch of glam (much needed for the cocktail-ish setting) to the outfit.  For accessories, I just wore huge pearl earrings, and my rosegold watch (Tommy Hilfiger). For footwear, I wore my faux snake-sin heels from Marks & Spencer and carried a grungy black clutch from Zara.

I know the photo quality isn’t great, but this photo was not clicked with the intention of using it on this blog.

I love reading your comments so do drop in a line or two.

OOTD: Reggae Vibes

I love me some stripes, and I love me some colour. So when you combine stripes and colour, it automatically results in my favourite outfit. And when the colour palette has a strong reggae vibe to it, it just makes the outfit that much more special.

Confused by the description? Checkout the dress I wore a couple of weeks back. This dress is super comfortable and fits beautifully. I like the fuss-free style and the fact that it’s cotton makes it for an easy wear in this humid weather.

I paired the dress up with my brown Bata flats and a tan belt (from Bangkok). And my choice of handbag was the Louis Vuitton Galliera PM. I love how the tan elements (in the accessories) complement the outfit and pull the whole look together. I also wore a peach hair-band (also from Bangkok). If you follow me on Instagram, you would know that I have been loving hair-bands.

Dress: Watch this to know (and get pleasantly surprised).
Footwear: Bata
Handbag: Louis Vuitton Galliera PM

A Day at the Mall: OOTD + VLOG

The other day, my Husband and I went to the mall to pick up a few items (none pertaining to me though). And while I almost always enjoy getting dressed for the mall, that particular day I didn't have enough time to fuss over my outfit. So I wore the simplest outfit ever, and I think I managed to look half decent. J

I chose a sheer, printed blouse (which was a favourite at the time I was working with a law firm, but hadn't received much love lately) and paired it with my trusted dark blue skinnies. For shoes my obvious choice were the silver ballet flats I'd picked up from Bangkok. I say obvious because malls require a ton of walking, and for that I need to be in my comfiest pair of footwear, although I've spotted plenty of girls rocking 6 inch heels and trotting about the mall (why would they torture themselves!). And the star attraction of my outfit (I hope that phrase makes sense though) was my gorgeous Louis Vuitton handbag. It's such a beautiful handbag, perfect for a day at the mall as it's an over the shoulder bag and extremely comfortable to carry. The photo you see was taken at the basement parking of the mall. If you're a Delhi girl, I'm sure you would have already guessed the mall in question (if not, watch the VLOG). :) I love creativity in any form and the colourful graffiti splattered all across the parking lot is such a great reminder of all the latent creativity that people have.

In case I have piqued your curiosity and you would want to have a look at my day at the mall, just click the play button.

Kimono Convert: OOTD

I have been a fairly recent ‘Kimono Convert’. I am not usually the one to jump on to the latest trend bandwagon, and it did take me a while to try on kimonos, but once I did, there was no going back. What to do…they are the easiest thing to throw on, and they make a simple jeans+ tee outfit look instantly dressy. So every time I am in a (wardrobe) fix, I just wear a kimono over my basic outfit and feel ‘put-together’.

Now you might remember this kimono from my Spring/Summer Haul. It’s been a couple of months since I got it, and it was my first kimono ever, but I have worn it like 50 times already!

So last week, when I had to go for a casual meeting, I just paired up this beautiful blue kimono with a pair of dark skinnies and white tank top. To make the outfit a little dressy, I wore my metallic ballet flats, and carried my current favourite Louis Vuitton Speedy 25 handbag in Damier Azur.

Check-out how I wore this kimono at the Grub Fest.
