Breaking Some Fashion Rules: OOTD

I am usually not the one to follow the so called 'fashion-rules', mostly because I like wearing clothes and putting together outfits that tickle my fancy.

So when I was getting dressed for work today, I was in a mood to go all business-y but with a twist. And that twist came in the form of studded black flat sandals. Just by looking at the outfit, one would think of wearing black (at the most beige/nude) pumps with it, since the whole outfit (striped button-up shirt and black trousers) is fairly formal. But considering how hot and humid it has been here (in New Delhi) and also the fact that I can get away with flat sandals at work, I just decided to ditch the shoes and opt for sandals instead.

Honestly, I like the outfit, and the 'unexpected' sandals don't bother me too much.

Pink, Frilly Top and Black Trousers- Work Outfit

Who doesn’t love pink?! And when pink and frills come as a package, it’s a winning combination right?! Well at least for me it is! :P

So it’s no surprise that I love this top. Let me just list out the reasons to you:

1.      The colour- magenta/pink

2.      Frills- it’s got frills all over the top half of the front

3.      Chinese Collar- I love.

4.      Work appropriate (as can be seen from the outfit photo).

5.      Can be worn tucked in a pair of skinnies or flared jeans for a night-out.

And now coming on to the outfit, yesterday, I teamed-up this top with my favourite black trousers and added a belt (in faux croc finish) to complete the look. For shoes I had my black pumps on and the bag I carried was the same one that I have been carrying for months now (so unlike me). I was also wearing hoop earrings and my regular arm-candy (not clearly visible in the photo).

I was happy with the outfit. And yes, I’m going to repeat it on rushed mornings. Also, the photo quality isn’t that great because it’s been taken from my i-touch. I do try to get photos clicked with a proper camera but on days when I don’t have time on hand, I just try to get photos clicked with whatever comes handy. Like they say, something is better than nothing! J

Blue Butterfly Shirt and Black Trousers: Work Outfit

Ever since I have bought this cute butterfly print H&M shirt I have been obsessed with it. It’s barely been a week since I got this new purchase home and I’ve already worn it thrice! No kidding! And I have worn the shirt for 3 absolutely different occasions i.e. for chilling/ Casual Sunday (you can see the outfit post ), to work (as shown in this post) and for a night-out on Saturday (outfit post coming soon). Is this piece versatile or what?!

I had initially bought this shirt thinking that it would be perfect for work since it’s actually a sleeveless button-up which can be teamed-up easily with black trousers and a skinny belt, like I have worn it here, and come Fall and I can wear this under a beige or a tan blazer. However, the first time I actually wore this shirt, I paired it up white my white pants and was quite pleased with the outcome (you can see it here).

For work, I combined this top with my favourite black trousers and added a skinny belt to make the outfit look more professional. My obvious choice of footwear was my black pumps. And yes, I carried my regular tan bag. Really need to switch bags but this one is just so darn convenient (and it doesn’t hurt that it pretty much goes with every outfit)! I was happy with my outfit. I think the butterfly print on the shirt adds a fun element to the whole look. And who doesn’t like to wear fun clothes to work?!

Floral Print Brown Top and Brown Trousers: Work Outfit

I bought this brown floral print top recently and couldn’t wait to wear it. I am impatient like that! So I combined it with my chocolate brown trousers and brown kitten heels and I was good to go (to work that is :/)! 

This top is sheer so I obviously wore a camisole under it. What I like about the top is it’s neckline. I think I have mentioned before that I really like Chinese collars. They give any top a polished look and almost instantly make them work appropriate (you can see my love for Chinese collars here and here), not talking about neons and loud prints though (don’t think they can ever be work-appropriate unless you’re working in the creative field, which BTW I would love to be working in). So anyway, my obvious choice of pants was chocolate brown ones, I think they looked good. Got a few compliments (compliments never hurt, do they ;))! And yes, I’m still carrying my tan bag daily to work. Someone motivate me to switch bags!

Blue Butterfly Shirt and White Pants: Weekend Outfit

I am in love with this blue/white H&M sleeveless shirt that I thrifted some time ago. It’s got these little white butterflies all over it which I really like. Another thing that I love about this shirt is the Chinese collar- I think Chinese collars add instant sophistication to any shirt/top.

This Saturday was the first time I wore this shirt- and what better way to wear it than to team it up with my white skinny pants. I added a brown skinny belt (borrowed from my Sister) over the top just to accentuate my waist. Keeping in mind the brown skinny belt, I chose to wear my chocolate brown pumps and carried my tan bag. I really liked this outfit. What do you think?

Striped Shirt and Black Trousers: Work Outfit

Although I’m not exactly a fan of business-formals, on Mondays I like to dress the part. What would that part be- that of a lawyer working in a law firm.

So last Monday was no exception. I wore my striped white/gray shirt with black trousers and added a skinny belt to complete the look. I really like this shirt for the fact that it’s got a Chinese collar. For footwear I had my black pumps on and as usual I carried my tan bag. It’s been a couple of months since I’ve been using this bag- it’s just so convenient to stash everything in it.I also wore my favourite hoop earrings.
