The Yellow Maxi Dress

I need to stop buying clothes! Really! I mean every time I walk by a store or a flea-market, I end up buying something or the other, even though I might have similar items! And on occasions that I do not buy anything, I feel kind of disappointed. I know it’s a bad habit. But how to break it?! I have read that before buying a clothing item, envisioning it being worn several ways or with different items (at least 3) is a good indicator of whether you should buy it or not! But somehow, when something catches my fancy, I just want to have it, irrespective of the fact that I might have similar pieces already!

Now coming on to my latest buy, as some of you (readers) might know, I have been obsessed with maxi dresses since quite some time now (you can find the proof and )! I mean they are like SO comfy and easy to wear. Plus they are kind of dressy. So it was no surprise that when I found this yellow maxi (while taking a stroll with my girlie friend on one of the rather famous street markets in Delhi), I grabbed it immediately! I didn’t bother to check the silhouette or anything else! The fact that it was a maxi in a beautiful shade of yellow was enough to lure me in to buying it. Plus, the price was SO reasonable. So happily I got it home and did not even waste a second trying it on. However, once I wore it, I realised that the cut/silhouette didn’t flatter my body-type much! I mean I love the colour and the fit on the top, but the lower part has a funny cut which makes me look bigger than I actually am. I quickly got myself clicked in it so as to analyse if this maxi is any good (for me at least). I also wore a necklace to get an idea of how it would look accessorized. Haha!
What do you think? Looking forward to your feedback. J

My friend and I also bought some other stuff. Might do a post on that as well!

  1. I think that dress looks nice on you! My rule for avoiding buying too much clothes is asking myself (very dramatically) "Will you regret it for the rest of your life if you don't buy this dress/shoes/jeans?"
And if the answer is no, I don't buy it. Dramatic, but it works for me! :P

I shall give 'dramatic' a try the next time I have the urge to pick something up. :P

  2. This dress looks great on you, such a lovely color! I have such a hard time not buying clothes too, the only thing that helps me is setting a no new clothes rule for 1 or a few months. Then it feels like a challenge and you're accomplishing something :)

I have tried to observe a shopping ban a couple of times but without any real success! :(

However, I shall try yet again. Maybe post my 'no-shopping' commitment on the blog to help me stay motivated! :)

  4. Anya sweetie, you look marvelous, gorgeous and oh so pretty. Getting rid of this dress would be a crime! That maxi dress is made for you. The color, the shape all is absolutely darling. And I can't see anything wrong with it.You look as slim as ever. If you want my advice, wear it and feel happy and beautiful in it, because you look beautiful and happy in it.
So with that said, I'm coming to the serious stuff ;-) just kidding..... well if you want to buy something and you can afford it, why not Anya. If you want to treat yourself with something nice, why not! As long as you can afford it why shouldn't you buy nice things for yourself? They make you feel good and happy, so what's wrong with it? Nothing sweetie. Before I buy something I don't think about how often I could wear it, or with how many different items I could pair it. I like it, I buy it. It's fun to play with it, once I got home, to see what I could pair with it. There is always something in your wardrobe that will go with the new item. So don't feel guilty Anya. Enjoy it the fact that you are able to buy nice clothes. You deserve it.
